The RCI gallery
The RCI gallery is a modern approach to a spiritual meaning behind architectural form. And embedded within this is an emotional purpose that the viewer will experience. The gallery is meticulously layered to express development in life stages. And while the art itself may be open to interpretation an underlying theme occurs - Realisation, change, inspire.
Realisation, change, inspire.
The purpose of The gallery is a change in perspective. The buildings around us stand to accommodate us, therefor it is vital to leave the RCI gallery with a change in perspective and a willing to look at the world for all its worth instead of its downfall. And respect that everyone is on a different path but the ability to reach the peak is achievable for everyone. By hearing the silent voices, we as society will experience exponential growth.
The Brief.
To design a craft gallery and a contemporary art gallery with its own collection, a space for touring exhibitions and a life-drawing room for the use of students and townspeople.
The proposal.
The R.C.I proposal sits firmly in the site and represents the surrounding culture yet ensures it creates its own identity. The old cafe has been relocated toward the north of the site which now benefits from an outdoor terrace overlooking the river stour which runs through the city. The removal of this building allows the gallery to breath and gives space for a graffiti wall where local artists can express their talent creating a ‘skin facade’ which will continue to grow as artists choose to draw upon important and abstract topics in the form of street art.
